Im using Seige's Kong MkII air horns and they are freaking awesome! They have the best tone and loudest I have ever heard. They are pretty close to what a set of Nathan K3 sound like, but about 1/2 the cost.
Damn thats an awsome setup im having a little trouble figuring out the wiring but how did you get the switch to work for switching between horns? thats what im hoping to do but my specialty isnt wiring so i was just gonna hook up a momentary button.
Thanks for the compliments! I highly suggest the ISSPRO air pressure gauge... I love mine.
There is a wire at the central junction box that supplies 12v to the horn when the horn button is pressed. The wire is a yellow with a green tracer.
Cut this wire, leaving some room on both sides of the cut to splice into. Then all you gotta do is find which side of the yellow/green wire gets 12v when the horn is pressed. (I think the CJB side of the wire gives 12v when the button is pressed, and the harness side goes to the OEM horn harness) You then run the wire thats get 12v to the common terminal of a SPDT switch, and hook your OEM horn to the second terminal, and your air horn solenoid to the 3rd terminal.
6.0 could you see the horns from a distance with them under the truck? i see how you used the bracket of the running board to hide if end of the horn intentional or not its a great idea. awsome setup you got.
You can't really see them from a distance unless you are looking for them. I didn't intentionally use the bracket... come to think of it, yes I did . No, just kidding. Thanks for the compliment.
what does the rocker switch and push button do below you guage?
The rocker switch below my gauge is my compressor arming switch. It gets its power from the igntion switch, which then goes to the pressure switch. From the pressure switch i go into a 12volt continuous duty solenoid to switch the high current needed for the compressor. THis way I can turn my compressor on and off, and it only runs when the truck is running.
The wiring looks like this:
Ignition (12v on run)--------> Switch in dash------>pressure switch----->solenoid.
The push button switch on the left is a momentary push button that I have wired into a 1/4 SMC solenoid valve (like used on the horns, but smaller orifice) I have this valve plumbed in at the lowest point in my system to collect water. All I gotta do is press the button and all the water is drained from my system. I also use this as a service dump If I need to work on my system. I usually dump my tanks for a few seconds on a daily basis when I put the truck away for the night to drain any water.
wow im a complete idiot, i was looking for a yellow wire black tracer but other than that i found the right one now. about hooking up the compressor to the igition what color wire is that?
Guys:
As I'm not an electrician, all this talk of searching out wiring, having switches between the "2" horns, is very intimidating to me. If I can, I'll follow Siege Engineering's directions, nothing fancy, just so they work.
I did see a dark green F250 Monday in Taneytown MD, He had an array of 5 horns on a rollbar behind the cab out over the roof, with chrome stacks on either side. I thought maybe he is a forum member.
I have A- oem + air B - oem only.
You will never hear the factory horn when the air horn go, unless you forget to run the compressor like I have done a few times.
Quick question i had a switch to change between the two horn when i pushed my normal horn button. but every time id switch to the train horn it would only honk the factory horn. im sure i cut into the right wire. is there a relay needed? i would like to go to that instead of a toggle switch all the time
Im getting closer. did most of the wiring today and drilled a couple of holes, i just gotta make a bracket for the horns, drill for the tank, finish the compressor and run the airhose. also have to pick up some fitings unfortunatly. to much of a list?
also did you guys use the bolts that came with the compressor? the seem pretty small for a side frame rail mount.
and im mounting the horns forward facing into the cab right in the bed panel where there is somehow enough room. kinda infront of the wheelwell. these things are gonna reflect like a ****.
