Oddly enough, the tires that I mentioned are actually quite hard, they thump a little for the first few blocks of driving, I suspect they wouldn't do much on ice, but they're great for tearing though fresh snow.

basfire beat me to it. A little modulated braking will make your LSD act like a full-on locker...
BUT, too much of that technique will shorten the life of the clutch packs in the LSD.
A selectable locker (like the Eaton, OX, ARB, etc.)is the ultimate. Lock it until you get moving then unlock it to be able to steer....
