I don't know if you saw this post a while back, but the Schaeffer 9000 Supreme held viscosity as shown in the UOA report linked in the post that I linked below. I checked into it some more and have decided to try it out. I had already made the decision to switch over to a synthetic oil, in fact I have four gallons of Rotella Synthetic sitting in the garage right now. I am going to run the first change of 9000 Supreme for 5000 miles in order to flush the residual Rotella T out. After that I will be running a UOA at 5000 miles and another UOA every 2500 miles beyond that. I will be installing both the ESP pre/post luber system and the Oilguard EPS-60 bypass filter when I do the next oil change, which is when I will be switching over to the 9000 Supreme. I will post the UOA reports and we'll see how it goes.
I ran the Amsoil 15-40 Diesel/Marine in my 99' 7.3, ran the oil for 21k miles, had an oil analasyes(spelling ?) done,,it was "recomended for continued use",showed a slightly elavated amount of silicone, if I recall,,I did change the oil then also,,just because !
Now I just ran the 2 qt Amsoil filter (spin on) and they recomend changing the filter at like 11 or 12k as I recall, then you add the 2 new qts of oil (Fill the filter), and top it off,,the new 2 qts of oil helps replenish, any additives. I have the 15-40 Diesel/Marine Amsoil in 3 of my machines,,without any issues at all.
SJrank, the use of AMsoil no longer is an arguable point to void the warranty. Amsoil received their API rating and thus the dealer cannot cite that as an excuse. :-) .
This would be important news. Please provide the link.
AMSOIL INC began marketing licensed motor oil products on August 8, 1997 under a license issued by the American Petroleum Institute. This License and Agreement will terminate on August 8, 2008 unless extended by mutual agreement.

I may try it in my 6.0 next !
If you still have the oil report what was the:
#1 SUS Viscosity @ 210°F _____?
OR #2 cSt Viscosity @ 100°C ______?
The 6.0 sheers oil down and this seems to be the problem with extended oil change intervals. I have seen oil analysis reports including mine that showed synthetic oil sheered to 30w from 40w in as little as 3500mi. (SUS Viscosity @ 210°F 63.3@ 4019mi).<O</O
I cannot imagine what it would be at 20,000 or 30,000mi. My oil hits the 30w mark at about 3000mi so I have chosen to change around 3500 to 4000mi to limit the miles on my engine with 30w oil. I drive hard and tow and I think 30w is too thin for this in So Florida heat. I saw that Schaeffer 9000 Supreme held viscosity as shown in the UOA report that was posted previously and will probably try it.
I have run Amsoil it alot of vehicles. I currently run it in my '04 Powerstroke and run it in my work box van. The box van gets worked hard all day. It is a 2002 E-350 with a 5.4 gas. Truck weighs in around 14K. I used the amsoil and run itm for 10K miles and take a sample and sen it out for testing. Well the truck has 130K on it and the last test results were "oil good for continued use. sample at next regular interval". The particle test results are all way below average. Hope this helps!
My reports also indicate that I could go longer also. If I wanted to do it on 40w oil sheered to 30w. In a colder climate without towing maybe 30w would be ok.
QUOTE from Blackstone report:
“SETH: You ran this oil longer than the other two that we've analyzed for you and wear looks better than ever! We weren't sure if wear was going to get any better than what we've seen in past samples, so this was a pleasant surprise. We see no signs of any obvious mechanical problems developing. Only a low viscosity kept this from being a perfect report. It's not a problem and is a common find in this engine model.”
What was the viscosity on the oil from the 04 Powerstroke? The 5.4 gasser does not sheer the oil like a 6.0.
Where you used to run Amsoil does not apply to the 6.0L diesel. Amsoils PowerStroke page goes on to tell about a users 93 Ford Aerostar....Why deviate from the facts with government conspiracy and manufacturers that would lose profits if we ever found out about Amsoil. Many threads about this have been discussed.
Shell Rotella T Synthetic SAE 5W-40 is fully synthetic. Amsoil does show an API CI-4+ certified synthetic blend.
If you want to use an oil for extended periods in an EGR based engine, let that be your personal decision.
I was using Schaeffer 9000 5W40 but will quit when the last of my gallon jugs is gone. With each oil analysis, the wear metals were high. I got two free oil changes from my Ford dealer in the middle of using Schaeffer and both came back with far less wear metal. Since Motorcraft 15W40 was used by the dealer, I'll either go back to that or find something else when the last schaeffers is gone.
Jim - were the oil changes at the same mileage for the Motorcraft and the Schaeffer? Could you post the results? I am very interested (as I am a current Schaeffer user).
Hey guys FYI, there are several Blackstone reports from Jan 07 posted in another forum. the results showed were awesome..15500 miles and it looked like oila t 5200 miles. Search on Amsoil, and the first result should be a consolidation topic. the 4th one down dated 1/31/07 has posted lab results.
