Gentlemen:
Have any of you used Amsoil synthetic motor oil and their bypass filtration sytem? Is it as good as they state and how expensive is it? I'd appreciate any info that you might have.
Thanks
don't have the bypass but I've been using Amsoil for the past 20k +/- miles. most guys around here frown on Amsoil. I guess I'll be the test.......my buddy with a 7.3 (I know its a diff motor) has been running it for years...200k + miles with no problems......I do change every 5k or sooner religously. I think the main problem is when you go 10k-15k mile between changes like Amsoil says you can, I'd never do that no matter what the oil or bypass system.
I used Amsoil with mixed feelings about the product. Overall I just didn't like how the motor sounded when using th oil. I have switched to Mobil 1 for the following reasons: easy to get (any Wal-Mart usually carries 4 bottles), it's API rated (Amsoil is great but with no API rating means Ford can void any motor repairs under warranty). Mobil 1 has been great for me, I may switch to the Valvoline just to see what happens with that oil.
Yes I have used it too. It was hard for me to get being over the road all of the time. The filters are the best, I buy 2 or 3 and carry them with me. I had the by-pass system on my truck for almost a year. I just took it off and sold it. It cost more to do an oil change and it was a big mess. I spent almost $500 to get everything I needed for the by-pass and I still changed my oil every 10,000 miles.( should have been 15,000 to 20,000) My injectors would start cutting out and the truck would run like shi*. I would change to oil and it would run fine again. I went back to rotella I can find it at any Wal-mart and it only cost me 50-75 bucks to do an oil change. Not $150
I must say I did like using it but it cost to much for how often I would use it. I drive over the road and changing my oil every week is a must. I would use it if I did not drive over the road-- it is a good oil. Hope this helps.
i use amsoil 15w-40 oil along with amsoil's bmk-11 single bypass set up. i routinely get 20,000 miles out of my oil. oil analysis says i could go another 5,000 miles-but 20,000 miles seems to be my cut off- i can't bring myself to go over that mark. it works out for me, one oil change a year!. good enough!
I have used Amsoil in my cusomized harleys and vehicles for over 10 years now. I ahve yet to use it in my truck (just got it), but was thinking about it. Since Diesel motors do gunk it up quite differently than agssers, I wanted to research the bypass a little more first (and ask here too).
In another thread here I had a little to-do with some0one about Amsoil, but here is my opinion:
After 100 miles on my Harley motor (no major problems) in 5 years, the nottom end looked like it was a 30k mile engine. It withstood 131 degree temps in the mojavi, ran an average of 20 degrees cooler all around in summer and still maintained normal operational temps in winter, prolonged my transmission through it all and it still hums along today at over 100k miles (most get rebuilt by then becasue of shifter springs, ect), and still had a golden twinge after twice the normal reccomended interval. I would go on 6-8k mile trips and change when I got back.
Harley stated thata cceptabel burn rate was up to 1 qt per 1000 miles, and I burnt around a cup on each long trip every year.
Amsoil in my cars never had an issue. Even after 9 years, unytil I sold it, my SUV purred like a kitten, ran cooler in hot weather, and never had a major mechanical issue with the motor.
I LOVE amsoil, and it is also now API certified btw. I am alos not a dealer..I jsut love using it.
I use Mobil-1 as well. I tow very heavy in extreme conditions year round. Mobil-1 is great. It flows even at -60'F, and works good in the hightemps.

Use 5-W-30 heavy duty diesel. Have 30k miles on this oil change.
Use the Amzoil filter (not the bypass system).
Haven't had ANY problems. Oil has not thickened up. Oil consumption zero.
Don't have the bypass system on the 6.0 (had it on my 7.3L).
Woudn't go back to dino oil.
30k on an oil change????? you must like throwing money away! Mind throwing some my way? sure you havent lost a drop, but have you seen what that oil looks like compared to new? if you change your oil right now it will flow like water because these 6.0s sheer the oil. also if you go that long your looking at gunking up your sensors that your motor runs off of. have you looked at the price of changing the icp and the ipr? (which both monitor your oil) theyre definetly not cheep! Its your truck and you do what you think is right, but why take a chance to start ruining your truck when an oil change takes all of 15 min (or 3 beers) and 70 bucks? Dont make sense to me. get an analysis and prove me wrong but im saying impossible.

Sorry, not 30k.
Correct millage is 36k! and this is considered low millage for properly filtered fully synthetic oil!
I have 90k on the clock now.
Denman81 says: “if oil changed now, it will flow like water.”
– also… “I’m looking at gunking up the sensors”
Which is it? Flow like water, or gunk it up?
You must be thinking of dino oil. I’m using fully synthetic. It doesn’t break down like standard oil.
Now if you insist on using your father’s oil, CHANGE IT OFTEN!
The heat & pressure of this motor & turbine will tear it up!
According to Blackstone Laboratories www.Blackstone-labs.com http://www.blackstone-labs.com/by-pa...iltration.html
There are auxiliary systems you can add to your engine's lubricating system that will keep the oil clean enough to use over an extended period of time. By-pass filtration units are the most common system used for this purpose.
Not only do the by-pass filtration units cleanse the sump oil of blow-by and oxidation products, they also reduce wear metals and silicon accumulations, both of which are abrasive. Oil does not wear out. Its usefulness is limited by contamination. By-pass filtration removes most of the contaminates.
How long can an oil fill be run using by-pass filtration? We've heard claims of large (Class 8) diesels going 1,000,000 miles on the same fill of oil with no harm done to the engines. We have analyzed oils which have been in service 240,000 miles and found nothing unusual in the analysis, other than higher than average iron and lead (from steel parts and bearings), and these wear accumulations were not intolerably high.
