I own a 2007 FX4 and I am putting a camera under the rear bumper. My question is, Does anyone know which wire is the Reverse wire that I need to tie into so my camera will automatically come on when I back up. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Prestige...not knowing the audience (although "Prestige Wiring" should give a clue), it may be explained too simply for your skills but its blonde-friendly anyhow j/k...from a 2004 F150 wiring manual....
The actual reverse switch is on the left side of the tranny above the pan...it has Dark Green w/ Yellow Stripe wire to the fuse panel (lwr pass kick panel). In the panel is relay 301 for the trailer tow reversing lamp circuit. There are 3 rows of relays in the panel; 3 large square in a upper row (L to R = R01, R02, R03), then a row of 5 smaller (R0301 - R0305), then a lower row of 3 large (R04, R05, R06). It plugs into connector C2278 (relay base).
Looking at the relay base (relay pulled out), there is a row of 3 vertical pin slots top (L to R = Pin 2, Pin 4, Pin 1) , then a horizontal pin slot Pin 5 in the middle, and another horizontal Pin 3 on the bottom.
You could either locate the wires near the fuse panel and splice in, or just get a piggy-back splice and tap off the relay; either way you'll get 12V 20A whenever reverse gear is selected.
I put a reverse camera in my trucks last year and simply went to the backup light wiring and spliced it in. Just took out the taillight and followed the wire. Works great and under $100.
are these any good for hitching a trailer when alone?
My hitch ball shows up perfectly and I can hit it easily every time. The ball is different with my utility trailer and travel trailer but once you know where to stop it, it's a breeze. The wife never did learn how to direct me (after 40 years).

They are very good for that if you angle the camera correctly. The camera I got from Walmart came with shims to adjust the camera angle with. Best thing I have bought for my truck ever since I backed into a cop car! oops!!
looks good. Is there a particular brand that is better and is it hard to mount the head unit in dash? I've seen the rubber suction cup mounts; they look like a theft target?
Thanks for the great info. You guys are great! I am in the CCTV business so I get Cameras fairly cheap. The Camera I'm gonna use is the Same that alot of School buses are now using. Its a little bit smaller than a business card. Also has night vision LEDs .I'm doing a full 5.1 surround sound setup with DVD touchscreen and a 10" monitor in the rear with Backup cam, PS2, Sat Radio, Ipod, 2 amps, 2 10's and Polk momo speakers all the way around.I'll let you know how it turns out. I'll be installing it over the next two weeks. (taking my time) . Thanks Again!

My camera just has a 3M stickon mount with a cardel that holds the camera. I can unplug and remove the camera and put it in the center or glove box pretty quick if I'm in an area where I am worried about theft. The low cost one I bought from Walmart is rather small and doesn't look bad.
