thanks i goona try that, cats were so clogged on my e-150 it wouldn't even idle, this cougar has three cats
That's right-3 cats on the Cougar. There's a primary catalyst on each bank and a secondary shared catalyst that's dual in/single outlet. Typically it's the primary cats that clog,or overheat and break up and clog the secondary. Was the PCM replaced at any time that you know of? '95's are known to have bad injector drivers in the PCM that can cause one or more injectors to hang in the open position and flood the cylinder and the excess fuel can ocverheat and melt the catalysts.

johnny, i see you got a 97 bird, so you know what i 'm talking about, i want to replace everything from the manifolds back, i was looking at the magnaflow direct fit catlytic converter system and flowmasters or dynomax cat-back after that or would it be better to go to a exhaust shop and have them put in something

The Dynomax Catback is pretty good, but the flowmaster is pretty loud and drones alot. Sounds like you have the right idea if you need new cats. Something else on that car-if it hasn't been replaced-the trans will need replaced at some time in the future, and if it has been replaced....if they didn't upgrade the one-way clutch on the intermediate, then it'll fail in the future as well.

i just bought the car last month, i really not sure what has been done to it it's not a daily driver , i bought it to toy around in on weekends, i am working on the cobra brake and wheel right now then exhaust is next.
That car has the front wheel drive Taurus bolt patter, not 5x4.5" like Mustangs, so be careful with the wheel swap. They use a FWD offset too.
94's are bad about the injector drivers too. Christmas eve, my neices 94 4.6L Cougar lost #7 driver and it stuck wide open. My noid light was shining like a holagen high beam Went thru 4 94 Cougars at the salvage yard before I found 1 with a PCM still in it. And it was only there because the passenger side was too close to the car next to it so I had to go in from the drivers side and lay all upside down and backwards over the center console to get it out. Runs like a top now. Took a bit to get rid of the raw gas smell from the cats. She only drove it about 20 miles like that, so they should be ok. I'm just glad that she wasn't away at school when it happened. I don't know if I would have found another one down there or not.
