I read the owners manual but still don't get it. I just picked up a 06 EB with the 4auto set up. All my other Explorers have the 2/4/ low or all wheel drive set up. When I push the 4 auto switch I don't have any type of light that shows it to be on. The manual said that the 4x4 light on the dash will come on when you turn the key but that is it??? Just how does this work, what am I missing or do I have a broken explorer. I have not had a chance to drive the vehicle in bad conditions yet.
That's how it works. You are in 4WD auto all the time with no indicator light. When you push the 4X4 button you will be in four wheel drive with front and rear locked together. For use in snow or mud only....
mcdt, i believe your Explorer is in 2 wheel drive most of the time and the computer automatically connects the front axle for 4 wheel drive when it determines it is necessary. if you wish to over ride the computer you push the button and it is "locked" in 4 x 4 and computer does not control. i beleive you are right, at that point the light should come on.... tell me if im wrong guys?
