just got my guages installed today. getting around a max of 16lbs of boost with the red vac line on and 23 with it off. was wondering if my wastegate is going or something else
is the air filter clean??look for soot on the up pipes behind the turbo..also check all boots for loose clamps or splits..your boost is a little low..but not to bad..
16 lbs is stock rating at least for mine, and when I did the wastegate mod it brought it to 23 lbs (before I got my DP!). Maybe your truck is a later year (things changed middle of 99). But I trust Ron's wisdom and of course would do the boot check etc.
there is a donut for each pipe up behind the turbo..they just bolt to manifold down below...if the pipes are good..you need all new bolts and 2 donuts...if funds allow go to bellowed up pipes..

Is your truck stock otherwise? If so, that's perfectly normal.
I'm ashamed to say that I haven't even looked at the boost guage since putting the DP on but it has got to be 20-25 lbs (all by the seat of my pants) my 80 econ makes awesome power. The rod shorten makes the blow off stay closed longer or completly depending on how short you go. And the boost fooler is a limiting device the hides actual boost from the MAP it's adjustable as well (the computer will de-fuel at 22-25lbs for protection)
18 to 20 on a stock is normal i thought..sorry if i steered you wrong...
16-18 is pretty normal, depending on where you live (altitude). Highest I ever hit without a chip was 18 lbs of boost, and I was really getting on it hard going uphill to make that happen.
