Manual boost control? There is no such thing for a 7.3L PSD. If you want more boost, you have to add more fuel via chip or tuner.

I agree...I haven't never heard of a manual boost control for the 7.3 PSD. Is there something aftermarket installed on you truck?

I think it is more of a matter of what it is you are talking about? Alot of parts have different names depending on what part of the world you are from....Can you describe what it is that you are wanting to adjust?

Could he be talking about the boost annihilator that is supposed to override the factory cap on the boost that the turbo generates?

Uh, your truck doesn't have a wastegate.

I'd like to know what the hell this boost controller is hooked into.

i took the boost controller off because it did not work it does have a wastegate but the ford tech said that it had a back up valve incase the wastegate failed that is run through the ecm.

Yes his does. 99-03 Superduties with the 7.3L Powerstrokes have wastegated turbos. Vans equipped with the 7.3L PSD's have non-wastegated turbos.

BTW, his questions are being answered in a thread in the 7.3l Diesel section.

edit: OK then, I stand corrected. I thought all 7.3 powerstrokes were non-wastegated, all the ones I looked at sure didn't look like they had one.

There is no backup valve either. I don't know what your Ford tech was trying to explain to you. Maybe he was talking about the wastegate solenoid? That's nothing more than a solenoid that diverts airflow to the wastegate actuator to push it open. That's the only extent of control the PCM has over the wastegate.

The '94-97 Powerstrokes don't have a wastegate either. That might be what you are referring to.

Ahh, maybe. I test drove a '97 and it was definitely non-wastegated, and I drove a '99 and it also looked to me like it didn't have a wastegate, but I guess I didn't look close enough.
