I'm working on my 7.3L IDI and Im wondering where exactly is the correct nut/bolt is in order to jack the engine up? Bare with the dumb question, just this is the first time Ive gotten the chance to tinker with a diesel and all the gassers I've come across, its just a single bolt through the engine mount. This looks like a large cradle type mount... And I'm really not sure where to start to get the driver side engine mount loose... Any help would be great, as Ive got the garage heatin up right now and draining the fluids.
Don't recognize what you are showing there, but each mount has two bolts that hold the engine to the crossmember. If you crawl under the front of the truck, you will see two bolt studs on each side of the engine crossmember with a large nut holding the engine down. Take those nuts off, and the engine can be lifted.
yeah the link i used isnt any good anymore... i guess its a rotating links w/ different pictures.
I took the two nuts off on the driver side, does the passanger side nuts needs to come off also? And where is the big nut your talkin about... i didnt notice that anywhere.
sorry about all the questions! and thanks for the help
I looked at my pictures and can not find a good one.
This picture is the entire engine mount, the top bolts onto the engine with three bolts.
Down on the bottom are two studs, that go into the cross member.
If you look carefully in the front you can see one of the two bolts that will seperate the motor mount from the frame mount.
The frame mount holds the rubber isolator.
You want to seperate the bar through the isolator from the motor mount bolted to the engine.
WTH is that thing Dave...... Just slide under the cross member you will see 2 large bolts protruding from the engine mount...... Depending on what your about to do you may need both sides loosened off/removed. What are you doing!!!!!!!!
The two nuts you need to remove from under the crossmember should be easy to spot, they usually are 11/16 nuts with a captive washer. If you just need to lift the engine, that's the way to go, if you need to change the mount, you'll also need to seperate the mount , a 5/8 gearwrench comes in real handy there, one bolt fromthe rear and one from the front to seperate it.
Thanks for the help guys, to clear things up Im fixing a oil cooler leak. I managed to get it out without lifting the engine but it was a PITA! I'll be lifting the motor before trying to get that back in.
I took the two nuts off on the driver side and started jacking the motor up but the mount didnt budge. So ill try pulling the passenger side ones too.

You may need to loosen up the two nuts on the tranny mount as well to get enough play in it to jack the thing up, especially if you have a solid tranny mount.
