My first was a 1965 Chevrolet BelAir 2 dr. post with a 230 6 cyl and a three on the tree. I got my driver's license in it, cruised through the latter half of high school in it, and drove it to the farm where I worked. In 1972 at the beginning of my sophomore year of college, my mom gave it to me. I went on my honeymoon in it and started my business out of the trunk of the old Bel Air.
It received 10 lifetime replacement batteries from Montgomery Wards but Wards went bust and I lost the warranty. It's on its 4th set of Sears lifetime shocks.
It's been retired for a number of years now, but 176k later it's still in great shape and goes on antique car tours. It's one of the family by now!
My first was a 1965 Ford Mustang. 289 - automatic - dual exhaust. It was raked with aluminium rims and spinners. I learned all about the internal combustion engine from the car. Best part is I still have it and don't plan on ever letting it go.
when I was 16, i asked for a car and was told to buy myself one. I paid $100 for a 1981 ford Granada. i was excited because the air conditioner worked really well. The color was Primer . it was ugly but I ran the hell out of it! it was nicknamed "the viper".
Mine was also a Mustang (the one listed in my sig). I dreamed in high school of having a "5.0", and finally got one in 1989 when I went in the military. I bought it off a guy that took it to Italy with him. Payed 8k for an '84 Conv GT that was 5 years old with about 60k on it, IIRC. I miss that car sometimes, but after mod'ing the truck, I miss it less.
This isn't mine, but I have a pic almost exactly like it.
My first car was a 1962 Rambler Cross Country station wagon that I bought for $150.00. It had the push button 3 speed automatic tranny.
Everything worked and it ran for nearly a year before the engine lost oil pressure and seized up. Still had plenty of oil in it, not sure why it quit. Sold it for $25.00 and a few weeks later the buyer brought it back to show me how nice the new engine looked in the car.
1989 ford f-350 srw regular cab 4x4 7.3L no turbo, c6 3 speed and with 4.10s you could bet at 70mph thats as fast is she was going lol. She was a beast tho and i swear it would rip a house of the foundation with them 4.10s so much torque lol. No power options but it had a/c and that was good enough. Took it from a rust bucket and full up restored it into a beauty, I miss it, wish i just had it now to plow because it could do that well!
1982 Subaru station wagon with 4wheel drive shift on the fly hi and low. it was Tan and had a third head light in the middle that flipped up like the corvettes.
It was great in the Mud surprisingly. I always wanted to lift it and put some little mudders on it.
I think it's a really cool thing that some of you who are not kids still have your first. My buddys got his daddys first car! He said someday he'll give it to his boy.
