Havn't posted on here for quite a while butt have been looking around on FTE since I traded my 03 SD SC 4x4 V10 for the truck I have now.
I just ordered a SB intake for my 05 SC FX4 5.4, with 21,000 miles that I've had for about 1 month from JusnesModified.
Looking for a little performance gain, not a mpg gain.
Though I am getting 14-15 mpg now and am not looking to get worse.
I made my decision based on the info from this site.
Despite all the favorable comments on the SB here I decided on the Volant. My decision was largely based on getting an economical deal on a lightly used CAI from another FTE member here in the classfieds, and in part because of FTE Ken's article on installing the Volant on his Roush project truck.
Ken's article was a great help for the installation as the kit was used and there were no instructions. Install was pretty easy - took me about 2-3 hours and I am not a mechanic so I had a lot of wasted effort.
Must say I'm very pleased with it. There's a noticeable performance increase and I love the sound. Will likely go for the new dry Core filter. I don't doubt what I've read here about the SB but I'm very pleased with the Volant. Oh, and it sure looks good under the hood!
How do the S&B and Volant compare to an open element intake as far as intake noise under light load? I had an AF-1 intake that added power and mileage, but the whinning about the noise made it go away...
I hardly notice my Volant when under light load driving around town. But put your foot in it and VRoooM! Sounds like a big old 4 barrel carb opening up.
i know its not quite a CAI but does anybody have an opinion on the hood shaker kit for the 5.4 3v i seen good and bad reviews but i would just like to see what yall have to say about it i am currently using the volant on 1 of my trucks with a 4.6l and i am very satisfied the other witha modded 4.6l has a k&n and i amalso very satisfied W/ that one as well

i have the s&b intake it works great as soon as i put in i notice a difference. my brother has the volant and wants to switch it for the s&b intake
I have a ? I didn't disconect the batery when I put it on. Is there somthing that needs to reset, is that why you disconect it? Or am I OK with the way I did it. I have about 400 miles on it since instal.
BTW it was easy to instal and seems to work great, also instaled a JBA exhaust system the same morning, great stuff also.
I'm not a Ford tech but from I understand the reason why you disconnect the battery is so that the PCM/computer will "reset" and "learn" with the new equipment attached. You can still do it, it should take about 20 minutes including the disconnect time. You can see if any difference is made.

I still have the kit in immaculate condition....PM me if interested. Ill let it go cheap with a cleaning kit.
thread hijack time,
how much did the STS run you? I was looking at their site and can't tell pricing yet. have you had it dynoed yet? Or did they send you a mail order tune type deal? I've been eyeballing STS for a while, too bad i can't get a kit for the mach yet, there's no place on that car to mount one
what about the banks ram air intake how does that stack up to the S&B intake?
as far as intakes go, I was more curious about the JLT... seems to be the cheapest and the one that gains most power... though you do need a tuner (it works that well i guess) for it, and that kinda moves it to the most expensive if you don't already have one...
I think S&B is one of the best made intakes in quality and performance. They have very clear directions, great customer service and a million mile warranty. I sell AFE, K&N, S&B and am trying to get a deal with AirForce One... and I will recommend S&B first any day.
