I'm considering the addition of a cold air intake on my '06 F150 Lariat with the 5.4 Triton.Suggestions on which is best? I'm especially interested in inceased HP, maybe mileage and ease of installation. I've read several comments where supposedly 'custom designed' systems that 'bolt right on' often require some shade tree engineering to make them fit. I'm not interested in that! Stories - recommendations?
alot of people seem to like the Volant CAI but I cant speak from personal experience...Ive read lots of threads about CAI because Im seriously thinking about getting one of those and Volant seems to be favored
I'm installing a Airaid today on my 05 5.4. Volant was another I read alot about. Read about both here & you'll see that both get great reviews. I was going with Volant until I found this brand new Airaid 400-140-1 kit for $162 shipped including the 8oz bottle cleaner & oil. That made Airaid my choice. They must have made a mistake when they listed it on their website when I bought it last week. I checked their website this morning & the price is $294.90. I got a deal!!
I have the Airaid on mine and I feel that it is a very good system. If I was going to do it again I think I would go with the Volant just because I like that fact that the filter is fully enclosed.
I got the Volant 2 years ago along with the RAM tube that goes through the bumper; makes a difference for anyone who does a lot of Interstate travel; I also like the fact that it is a fully closed system.
I got mine from www.motorhaven.com . They are a sponsor here and had the best price I could find ( There was one cheaper but I had to pay tax). They have a discount for FTE members also. Let me see if I can find it.
Just got the Airaid installed. Now I'm just waitin on the mediciation to set in to see what happens. I too would go with Volant because of the enclosed filter. I just couldn't pass this Airaid deal up. They all pretty much do the same thing & cost about the same, so it comes down to looks.

But I should note that S&B has the same box as the Volant, but just released a new tube that greatly outperforms the one on the Volant System, so I have to change my recommendation!
Our website is down right now, but we sell the S&B system for the 5.4 thru 2008 for $279 shipped.
I have a 04 FX4 with the 5.4L and went with the Volant. Bolts pretty much in with the exception of the filter box. It's a little tight and takes a few extra minutes to wrestle it in but it is well worth it. I would suggest doing a total dry fit before bolting anything down. My MASS tap holes were slightly off but they worked fine. Makes a difference in sound and power.
