I am going to use the HO intake off of the stang. I compared the truck to the stang all to find something funny.I noticed that the intake of the truck has 2 sensors on the drivers side.1 is the air intake temp and the other is the EXACT same sensor as the knock sensor on the rear of the engine. When I looked in the manual I seen that the harness that is plugged into the extra knock sensor is not used on these trucks....green and brown I think. The truck has a knock sensor on the back of the block like normal then this one. What is up with this.
Where on the driver side manifold is the sensor? There's a single wire water temp sender for the dash gauge and a two wire air temperature sensor for the computer on the driver side of all the 302 truck intakes I have ever seen. The knock sensor wiring is green and brown (maybe black?) and the air temp sensor is yellow and black (brown?). The two sensor connectors do have a similar shape, though, so are you certain it's another knock sensor? Do you have a picture?
No the sensor I am talking about is right behind the air intake sensor. So in a row you have dash coolant temp sensor, then air intake sensor, and then this sensor that is exactly a knock sensor.unless someone put it in by mistake when they seen the harness laying there. It is 2 wires and the wire colors are blk/lt green. If you look at a manual it is pin number 40 and 60 on the controller.I will try to get a pic tonight. Thanks
Well the HO's dont use a knock sensor. Just the trucks. Probably a temp sensor for the computer. The trucks have them also. Mounted on the T thats in the intake under the Tbody.
That's interesting. I have noticed an untapped hole in that side of my intake manifold, but no sensor was ever there. I wonder if someone moved it to a more accessible location when the original one failed? As far as wiring is concerned, I don't have an un-used plug there, though.
THats odd if you dont have a spare plug there. What I am worried about is if I put the stang intake on it will throw a cel on or change my timing. All the manuals I have checked all say that there is no other sensor there.Any ideas?
I wonder if the stang intake is going to do any difference. The reason I was going to try it was because I was told but a few people that the stang intake will allow the engine to pull more rpms and make more power. From what I understand is that our intakes dont like any more rpm then about 3500 rpm.Any input???

There is only one knock sensor input to the truck computer, so as long as there is a knock sensor attached to that input, you shouldn't have any problems with a CEL, timing, or otherwise. Someone may have just popped a knock sensor into the empty space to avoid going diving to reach the one at the back of the block. You could always try unplugging one or the other (if they are both wired) and see if it makes any difference one way or the other.
