NEED SOME HELP!!!

I have a 86 f-150 2x4 and it has been giving me some trouble. I have cracked intake. I changed it out to the edelbrock performer 5.0 efi intake manifold and I dont have a place for the knock sensor. This made it run like butt and know it will not start again. What do you all think it might be?? And do I need the knock sensor in place?

A knock sensor simply detects noise within a certain frequency range and transmits a signal back the ecm to adjust timing to eliminate the noise. If it's not there, no signal will be generated. Thats all. My truck has the mass air conversion with an A9P computer. That setup doesn't have a knock sensor.

Can you provide a little better description of "run like butt"?

It use to start up with no problems and now I have to crank on it to even it started. It is blowing out black smoke. It feels like the timing is off but I checked that and it has lots of power and will go faster then 65mph.

When you changed the intake did you reattach the computer ground wire that bolted to the rear intake bolt on the drivers side of the engine? That ground not being connected will produce the symptoms you're describing.

Pins 16, 20, 40, 49, and 60 from your computer are all grounds. Running all of these directly to the negative battery terminal is generally a good thing to do. Most of the factory ground connections break down over time, and bad grounds can cause huge problems.

Made it myself. Used a stock mass air meter and an A9P computer with the stock truck intake. Added one additional O2 sensor. Made my own changes to the wiring harness. I think it was 37 changes in total. I've got a spreadsheet that details the whole wiring conversion pin by pin. Adjusting it to a non H.O. motor would only require one or two changes to the injector pin order. If you want a copy of the spreadsheet pm me with your email address.
