What does the knock sensor in the 2.3L fuel injected Ford Ranger do?
The truck I just bought has the knock sensor, but it is not hooked up and I can not find the wiring harness for it anywhere. I can't even find where it's been cut from. Someone purposely took this out for a reason; just wondering how important it is for this truck to run right.
Truck runs great, RPM's vary occassionally when it's idling, but it never quits, so that's ok.
Truck gets too much fuel on start up, causing it to flood. Does the knock sensor possibly have anything to do with this (e.g. Timing)
Are you sure the engine in your truck hasn't been changed? I
believe the 2.3L turbo engine used a knock sensor, but I don't
believe the 2.3L in a Ranger had a knock sensor....
I did look up the 2.3L for 88 Rangers, and one of the Ford Parts sites had a knock sensor listed, which I thought to be funny, since my 94 doesn't have such.....
Either the harness was swapped, assuming my search was correct, well, that's about all I can think because that engine seems to be okay. makes me think there was a fire (rebuilt engine + different harness = hmmm.) or someone tried a swap and went back to stock engine. Who knows.
The knock sensor adjust timing when there is detonation. The timing adjust I suppose can add/subtract from mpg's, but I'd check that harness or even the computer out and see if they match up to the engine.
