I'm with Dan, I'm not giving up my truck for a whole day and have to bum a ride from the wife for something that costs so little and is held in by one bolt. It's not worth the trouble. Now, if they are willing to exchange blacks for grays then I will be right down there. I have two blacks (one confirmed bad) that I would gladly exchange.

I called a Dealer and he said that "it had to be on the truck" (my old one is in the glove box and i will just switch it out) and that I could just pull up to 'Service' with no appointment and it would be done in 15 minutes.

I was at the Stealership at 8:45 this morning and was on my way home by 9:30. If you make an appointment it shouldn't take long.

So we do or do not know for a fact that the grey one they are installing are the SAME grey one you can buy everywhere now? If it is exactly the same part, it might be to our advantage just to get one and throw it in ourselves.....????

Bummer for all of us who have already had to pay hundreds for a new one at the stealership (i like that term!...learned it here on FTE). Please post if anyone has found a way to get some compensation....assuming we have our Ford service paperwork for the CPS replacment.

Dave, according to Pony Power's first post, the unit they are putting in is the same gray unit that some of us have been buying for the past several months.

I may have a strong I can pull here locally... one of my neighbors two doors down owns a large Ford dealership here in Birmingham. If I talk to him, he may arrange for me to walk in and out with a hand-to-hand swap out without having to re-install the old one and get them to change it for me. I've been wanting to talk to him anyway about the potential for him to work with our RoadSide Network by potentially offering a discount to anyone we bring him who gets stranded or needs parts while traveling through.

I'd be really surprised if any of them followed through with a promise like that. Here in the Houston area it's gonna be "drop it off and we will call you when it's done".

I called a Stealer right after my last post. They said had to be in truck and new one installed by them.

No thanks. Not a Stealer on the planet getting my truck for a day for a $25 part or a $4k short-block. I'll let my buddy's D-Max trailer it to DI, WOP, BWD, SWAMPS, BEANS, etc...before I drive it to a Stealer. But that's just me.

Was just outside and my as always cocky neighbor sees me and he says "I see your 7.3 is being recalled, heh" and he has this cocky grin on his face. I just smiled and said "Yeah, it sure is. How many times has that 6 blow had it's head studs replaced?"

He mumbled, "Three times....you got me".

My 7.3L is still my best girl.

Ha!

If you are going to take it in I would do it soon. Parts guy here figures it wont take too long before the CPS's are on backorder. I just stopped in and ask about the recall and they had a tech change it right then. took about 10 minutes.
