Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership,
visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com. This information will be available on December 04,
2007.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor may fail due to circuit
degradation. If the CMP Sensor should fail, the engine may stall. In the event of an engine stall, a
crash could result without warning. A new CMP Sensor with improved reliability is now available.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to inspect the CMP Sensor to verify which design level sensor is installed in the affected
vehicles, and replace all prior level sensors. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no
charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Parts to repair this condition are currently not available in sufficient quantities to service all of the
affected vehicles. Therefore, to ensure that an ample supply of parts is available, owners of affected
vehicles will be notified in separate phase mailings over several months. Phase mailing will begin the
week of December 17, 2007; prioritized by age of vehicle. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles
that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

mine does.

I replaced my CPS several months ago with the new gray unit. The one I took out was not giving me a problem, so I have kept it in the glove box as a "verified good spare". Since I still have it, I wonder if they (Dealership) will simply swap it out for a new "good" one, assuming that it tests out as the unit that is covered by the recall.
I guess I can call one of the local dealers and talk to the parts guy without giving them either my VIN or name and just pose the question to them and see what they say. I sure hope I don't have to re-install it just to go get it checked, bacuse I honestly don't know if it is the trucks original CPS or not since I bought the truck with 114K miles on the clock.
I'm going to call them.... and I'll post their answer shortly so anyone else who sees this and is in my situation will know what to plan for.

I am somewhat reluctant because the last time I had the truck into the dealer for re-programming of a new VSM two years ago, she was so traumatized by the experience, it took 3 weeks before she started running strong again.
EDIT: Since I get about 40 visits a day on my CPS R&R webpage , I have updated it to reflect this new information. It seems as if quite a few Powerstrokers are still having CPS problems if my little site gets that many hits just for the CPS. Do you think that the dealership would tell someone at the parts counter that is buying a new CPS that they are on recall???

In order for the dealer tov erify the CPS sensor "version" to see if it qualifies for replacement, it DOES have to be installed in the vehicle at the time of inspection.
Oh well, I guess it's worth the potential for getting another $25 CPS to change my original one back into the engine and take it in for this offical determination/replacement. Actually, it will be really good, because the one that is running now can become my "verified good" spare in the glove box. Yeah!
If I had to take a guess Ford knew last year when they released the cheaper cps they were going to do this but figured give a lot of people the chance to do it themselves and save labor costs too.

On another note, I wonder what they'd say if I brought mine in with all these mods (after yanking the DP, of course!!).
