Well I just went to my friendly Ford dealer and gave them the recall info. They said they need to wait til the first of the year until the recall parts come in and that I would recieve a letter from Ford as to when to get the recall fixed. Thats stupid. Recall parts like the new CPS that has been out for abotu 6 months now!! Oh well guess I will have to wait to get my new CPS.
Edit-oops has I read the whole recall I would have seen that they need more parts in stock to take care of the issue. Stupid!
From the thread I link to it sounds like it has to be in the truck to get a replacement. I guess that means no refunds. Certainly worth the question though!!
I just made a copy of the recall and will contact the dealer today just to see what is said. What's ironic about this is that I have a new CPS laying on the front seat that I was going to install just for grins and giggles yesterday but it started raining and I held off.
Is it necessary to remove a chip code befor going to the dealer?
I called my dealer and they said if my VIN shows up on the recall they'll refund my repair costs from 2 years ago. But I plugged my VIN into the Ford recall site and it shows no recalls. A call to Ford Cust Svc in Detroit shows the same thing. Maybe it'll take a while for the updates to be posted on line?

1300Hrs I just got back from the dealer and have an appointment to have mine changed tomorrow. (If the PO didn't do)
I wonder if the apparent inapplicability of the recall to the 96 model year is related to the fact that Ford says the new inexpensive CPS won't work in the 96 motors. As if they are saying the parts are different somehow and the 96 cps was reliable! Let's hope they issue another recall for 96.
