Is there any way to get rid of this green mold looking stuff that is growing on my roof shingles ? There are pine trees around, is it comming from them ?
I used a 25%bleach 75%water solution in a pump-up sprayer to get rid of the mold on my shingles. Spray it on, let it soak for 15-20 minutes and hose it off.
For a long-term solution, you need to put zinc or copper strips near the top of your roof so that they are exposed. They will oxidize, and the oxides will wash off (slowly) and prevent future growth of mold, mildew, algae and the like.
You may not get rid of the stain but, the bleach does work. There are commercial products also that require a high pressure rinse which is not always good for the shingles. "Shingle Shield" is the name of the zinc strips that are installed near the peak of the roof. Problem could be due to the trees if they are real close to the house- dampness and shade.
