Depending on how it is laid out, a bathroom can be as narrow as 5' which is the length of a standard tub. You need about 32" width for a toilet install and a minimum of about 18" to 2' for a sink. If you are trying to save space, you could do it all in 5' x 6'. If you are looking for comfort and want beyond a bare bones bathroom, I'd go 8' x 8' minimum.
It will also depend a lot on how the plumbing is set up - mainly having to get all three units to connect into the drain line and the sewer vent.
You could always put the sink on top of the toilet and use the water from the sink
to flush your toilet!! Pretty soon we are going to have to start water conservtion
methods large scale just like this example of course sometimes you would have to add
some water to flush or have a back up drain so if you washed your hands etc more it
would drain out and not flood the toilet tank!! The BBQ joint in town here has the
tiniest door to the mens room and the restroom itself isn't too big, but the door is like
20 inches maybe!! Their best customers (250+) always complain about it.
I put one in my basement, with a 32" shower, toilet, vanity sink and a H2O heater. In swinging 32" door. To get the drop needed for the shower, I raised it up with treated 2x8's, the platform was 8' x 8' (outside dimensions). Had to hammer through the floor to go underneath the slab and footer. Another pain was running the 3" vent through an upstairs closet and out the roof.
Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions and info, I think I will go for a 5 X 7 room size. Next issue I have is with the main waste pipe. The waste above the concrete slab is black PVC but when I poked through the slab, the waste pipe is vitrified clay. I googled around on the clay pipe and the material I found wasn't too encouraging, including some saying to replace it all with ABS and other posts saying it was hard to cut the pipe cleanly and that lack of fitting available to mate it to PVC or ABS. So I was wondering if anyone here has worked with it and/or is a plumber.
