What is the brand of the pump that keeps failing you, if you know?
No matter what box its in, its a carter. Also all are new not rebuilt. Carter is the only one who makes the pump. My problem with the new pump is nothing more than someone putting wrong pump in wrong box. 3 delivered and all wrong pump inside (airtex). Then they sent 2 60167. Bone Heads. Pump #6 was correct 61067.
My issue with the pumps is Cali was not the same as 49 state. Replacement pumps are only 1 pump. Cali trucks were a very short run. Could also be a reason for short life. No answers on this one.
The carter pump looks and is different design than what the bosch is. Carter has formed pedestal, bosh is machined. I dont think that they come from the same place either, but am not positive, just about 95 percent sure that they dont. There are a few external design differences, and I noticed that the plunger was a little different, but to each their own.
Rock auto now lists a Carter, Bosch and Airtex. Last time I looked, about a years ago only carter was making them. Well atleast that all Ford, Napa and Carquest sold. not any more it seems

I need some C-4 I have been F**king with this turbo for 2 days straight. I have the up pipe loose, I have the front 2 bolts/nuts (I don't recall) loose on the pedistal and I have the rear passenger bolt loose.
Now the problem....I can't see or evan feel the bolt/nut on the rear drivers side. There must be a trick, a proceedure, A mysticle, magicical mumblings,
a fire dance in the nude. You can have my first born, in fact, you can have them both.
How/where does this last friggin' fastener live and how do you coax it out.
Cancel the C-4 I got that SOB out. The fuel pump didn't want to come out. I bumped, I pryed, I twisted and pulled. I though that I would have to pull a head or something so i could unbolt it from the cam. (Just kidding)
All in all, that was the most miserable job I have ever undertaken sense I started wrenching long before the Watts riots. To tell ya the truth I'm really dreading putting that SOB back on.
I will change the banjo bolt and the attached fuel lines over to the non-Cali model.
This Cali model is insanity. I may have to call on one of you guys to send me the parts as I doubt if I will be able to accquire non-Cali parts. But I'll try.
I can not even imagine the anger within MadVan. This is his fourth fuel pump.
Bill, find the humor in all of this so ya won't havre the big one.
Thanks for all of your input and support but I have a feeling this thread has not been put to bed yet.
you working on a van motor??? There shouldnt be a reason to take the turbo off on a truck to change out fuel pump. Took me about an hour and a half to change one, and that was being meticulous. I bet I could do one now in 45 min or less.

Todd: I'll kiss your *** until you bark like a fox if you can change a Cali fuel pump in an hour. In fact I'll give you two (2) days to draw a crowd and sell tickets.lol

Van=Yes
Shouldnt be a reason=
Van fuel system is the same as a Cali truck.
It could take 45 minutes just to remove the front seats so you can remove the dog house. I have huge Captain Seats.
And the difference for a cali pump is what?? Is the banjo bolt further under turbo pedestal? thats the only thing that I could imagine to have a problem with. Other than that, its just two hoses one senor banjo bolt, wiggle repeat (thats the simple version obviously) But I didnt pull the fuel bowl, or the turbo on mine. Just crawled in and went to town. Please elaborate on the cali truck.
