Fuel Crisis
What does this mean to you? Well....
1) It will cost current Excursion owners $176 to fill their tanks.
and
2) Excursion shoppers will find the best deals ever imaginable on nice used Excursions. There will be very few people forking out $18,000 to $25,000 for a vehicle that gets such poor mileage.
As an Excursion owner, how will $4.00 a gallon prices affect yout driving habits and patterns?

In a way that is a good thing cause the price of a ex is going to go down. That means i can have to excursions (a v-10 and a 7.3, the two greatest engines ford created)
But in all honesty ill still drive and take the hit while the prices rise. It will suck though while everyone else is suffering while these ceo's are becoming rich. Didnt they say that fuel prices where sapose to be like this last summer?
What is everyone else going to do on this forum?
There is a price point (as a sociaty, because it is different for everyone) that we will change our habits. I understand (from numerouse different reports and estimates I have heard/read) that it is about $5 per gal.
Will the gas price changes make me sell my Ex? NO.
Will I change my habits due to the price of gas? Probably.
Have I already changed my habits due to the price of gas? Yes.

I'm driving the X less and my wife and I are car pooling to work (we work w/in 7 miles of each other and we both commute 30+ miles each way), it means we have to leave a bit earlier, but it's saving us.
If gas continues rising - I'll buy some old 4-banger just to drive back and forth to work. We'll probably still take the X on the weekend for out and about stuff just purely for the space and comfort.
And then there will be vacation - even with the higher price of gas, we'll take the TT. In the long run, we save on hotel/condo fees, food and it's just more enjoyable. We've already planned on a 'closer to home trip', which means Myrtle Beach (I hate the place, but it's only ~240 miles). Normally we go to FL (600+ miles eachway).
Finally - we'll just have to wait and see. We've all heard the "prices will hit record highs during [insert time period or holiday here]" and when it actually hits, it's not as bad as predicted. The media and 'financial forecasters' will over hype stuff for the attention (read ratings) because no one holds them accountable for what they say.

The price of SUVs and such will go down, as they already have. The resale value of cars that get good gas mileage (just look at the Prius) is very high. By comparison, these SUVs have terrible resale value. I have seen prices go up some in the past year, but overall, anything that is a gas guzzler has plummeted in value. When I was looking at cars to buy a bit over a year ago, prices were rock bottom. I got an amazing deal on my '97 Range Rover, and then I also got an amazing deal on my Excursion, but I think that was just luck and being in the right place at the right time. Looking at the higher end gas guzzlers, rock bottom prices were at the end of summer '06, and have since gone up a hair.
As for me: I drive what I drive because I need it, and not because I want it. Ultimately, I paid $6650 for my Excursion when I bought it. For comparison, good luck getting a 2000 Town Car with 91k miles for that price. That is really what you're looking at in terms of trim similarities. Plus, then I have a sedan that, while it gets better gas mileage, doesn't seat 8 people, I can't easily put my dog in, and definitely can't tow large trailers, cars, etc.
I have an "economy" car, my Jag, which gets 25 mpg on the highway. When I don't need the space of the Excursion (and there's no salt on the road), that is what I drive. It does save me money on fuel, but I drive it because it's a lot of fun.
I considered getting a third car - a sedan of some sort that gets good mileage. I haven't because of two reasons. First off, I hate the way most small sedans drive (certainly most in the price range), and large sedans don't get that much better fuel economy (and I don't like the way most of them drive, either). Secondly, the economics simply do not make sense. Let's say I pay $5000 for a used car. Well, then I'm probably paying $500/year for it in insurance since I get full coverage, and another $1000/year in mainteannce. Then it is depreciating as I drive it. Realistically, that means it needs to save me $2000/year in gas costs for me to break even. Even as much as I drive, I doubt I would. On top of that, then that just means I have to spend the time on maintaining another car, I have to clean it, etc. etc.
I keep the Jag because it's a toy. I keep the Excursion because it's a toy/work vehicle. It really doesn't make sense to own any more vehicles than you have to. Consolidating how many vehicles you own will save you a lot more money than gas.
Besides, if you REALLY want to spend a lot of money on gas, buy an airplane.
I have a bad addiction to my toys and these gas prices are not helping me! lol At least my new wifey wants a "small round car possibly a convertible" i think I'm gonna have to hijack that thing as often as possible lol.
