i highly doubt this will happen but what if gas goes up to 8 dollars a gallon in like a couple years and our country starts to only drive small cars like europe?

I plan on installing solar cells integrated into the roof rack to run the electronics.
I also plan to add a foremast with a main sail and jib sail. Once up to speed I can unfurl the sails and glide to my destination. Just watch out when I have to tack. I might have to use the median in a cross wind, but that's what it's for, right? If you hear me holler "Hard to Port," duck and stand clear.
Wish they could find a way to use farts for fuel. Would'nt it be great if all we had to do was eat mexican before a long trip?
Otherwise, I'll keep buying gas and act responsibly with my driving.

I haven't flown in a few years, just getting back into it now--got married then had a baby(got any idea where my money went?) I have a lot of time in the Archer III and Seminole. the flight school near me has some nice & new 172 & 182 with the G1000 panel, I'm looking forward to flying those...there is another school that rents the Cirrus but there is a 5-10 hr transition traning required. I want to get current again then get my commercial.
I understand how that goes. What I am trying to do is get my PPL, IFR, and multi-engine before I have any kids, eventually looking for a commercial and CFI. Should be doable, seeing as my fiancee is supportive of it. The difficult decision I have now is one of what to do regarding a plane purchase. I want to get a 310 and work on building up hours on that (ideally getting my multi right after the PPL, and then work on a multi IFR). The issue is that I can't get insured on any twin until I have 200 hours - but of course the more hours you have in type the lower your rates go. Bit of a dilemma.
I've flown in a few G1000 182s. It is different in many ways to the gyros. They have certain features that I like, the biggest one being the "TRAFFIC" alert. I was flying around a rarely used airport, and the G1000 informed us of oncoming traffic. We didn't see it and the altitude was different enough it wouldn't have been an issue, but it is a nice warning to have. You definitely never want to get too close in those situations. Anyways, I'm not sure whether or not I like it more than the more standard gyros - my preference seems to be having an IFR GPS/NAV/COM like a Garmin 430/530 series and then an older standard radio with gyros. Seems to give you the best of all worlds.
Of course, if you want to get excessively redundant, you want a twin with a pair of 6-cylinders, full dual instruments, and dual 430s/530s, but that came from the redundancy department of redundancy department.
If you want to talk planes more PM me... don't mean to hijack the thread.
MarkMoore, PM me if you're interested in flying lessons... I can tell you some more of what's involved and what it'll cost you. It's a lot of fun!
I'll never compromise safety with gas prices. Simple - laws of physics : the bigger and heavier, the safer it is. Second, time to hit the boss for a raise - I've been real good this year. Third, just bought a 91 camry for me and a 97 camry for my wife for our daily driving. Both get 32 mpgs. The best news? I get to keep my 02 4x4 Excursion and she's in the driveway with a truck cover.
Lastly, you've got to spend to keep the economy going :-)

Drive Safe,

If it is in a cover, are u driving it in the winter or are u keeping it in the garage for the winter and driving the camarys?
I defintiely agree on the compromising safety for fuel economy. I make this argument frequently with my pilot friends as to why I prefer twin-engined airplanes. If one goes out and you're in the clouds or flying at night, you have your choice of airports as opposed to "Well, I sure hope this ground is friendly..." Of course, if you're out in Arizona it probably doesn't matter, but still.
For me, it just comes down to lower gas bills don't make up for a higher purchase cost, especially when they would require that I rent a truck pretty frequently anyways to move stuff, something I have to do on a regular basis. Especially when you keep a 100 lb rottweiler around, traveling is not small or light!
Hey Matt, I was just thinking about your exhaust - how do you like the sound? Any sound clips?

I don't follow. You have the Ex under wraps but yet you said you will never compromise safety with gas prices. Is the camry safer from a weight standpoint than the Ex?
I took a hit on the Ex in Mar. When a drunk hit me in the front wheel, they moved the frame 37mm to the right. My wife was sitting too close to the glove compartment and got bruised knees from the impact. We were fine otherwise. 91 S10 was totaled and you could see a visable bend in the frame where the bed met the cab.
Took a hit a couple years ago right IN THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR of my 99 C280 MB by an 04 Civic. Classic T-bone. She hit me in my weakest side with her strongest side. We are talking of 55 and better speeds. She got it worse than I did.
IMO, I drive the biggest vehicle I can comfortably drive. I can always earn more money IF I AM ALIVE.
