For the motor, your best bet is going to be a few simple mods like cutting out air intake horns, K&N (or similar) DROP IN air filter (not cone/cold air intakes), six litre tune-up, and a free flowing exhaust (no bigger than 3" single). Diving a little deeper into the motor (pocket book), you could look into 1.7 rockers and/or camshaft swap and a set of long tube headers.

For the transmission, a "Punisher" valvebody would help get power to the tires more effectively while also helping reduce wear on the transmission while running such large tires.

A gear swap is going to be the most effective option up front, but will cost a bit as you have to regear both axles at the same time.

A good suggestion but FYI.. they only exist on 460 powered trucks.. none of the small V8 or I6 trucks got them.

The upgrade for a 351w would be to get the air tube from in the grill to the airbox from a straight 6 or 460. Otherwise the stock intake is just fine. The cheapest way to get gears are to find a truck with the gear ratio you want at a pull-a-part and get them there. The pull-a-part by me charged 75 bucks for a front and rear ring and pinion the last I knew. Although a lot of places vary on price.

for a 351w the best thing to do it long tube headers, cold air intake, cams, and a big one is GT40 heads or simply port and polish your stock ones as big as they can go for better air flow and power. a shift kit and what DIYIT said about that the tranny thing are extremely good if thats what you want to do to your motor so it wont eat your tranny like a lion would a gazelle. And of course the 6liter tune up and new distributor cap and wires. A tuner is only needed if you want to run big cams because they throw off the stock computer, if you dont plan on running huge cams or a stroker kit FORGET ABOUT IT
