Do you guys know of the new '08 trucks have the same manual trans in them and call for the same fluid? I've got a friend that owns one and wants to change his fluid, but the owner's manual only states Motorcraft Manual Transmission Fluid. Is this just rebadged ATF? Seems it would be easier for them to just spec ATF in the manual.

My 02 manual uses ATF. The 08 specs:
Manual transmission fluid
5.8 quarts (5.5L) Motorcraft Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid
Ford part number : XT-M5-QM / WSS-M2C200–C
You would think so but they've been doing this for several years. It actually holds up well.
Yep -- my '84 Mustang's T5 had ATF in it. I converted to 75W-90 syn gear oil, then broke it. Twice. It wasn't the oil's fault though. I was racing it both times --2nd gear in those things were very fragile. That's why I swapped it to a C6 with the bored 351W...
No breaking that one...
EDIT: What the heck is "Full-Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid"???
