I have a 2006 F250 Diesel and was looking at chipping it. I have been looking at websites for chips, but just managed to confuse myself. There are downloaders, modules, outlooks and programmers. What are the differences? I also heard people talking about double stacking-- I assume this has to do something with matching 2 up with eachother. I was looking at the Edge evolotion...does anyone know if they are any good?
For the 7.3 thats true, for the 6.0 check out spartandieseltech.com, if you go to the 6.0 forum you will find that they are the most recommended programmer and the tuner of choice is the SCT xcalII/III,
thanks for the tips, but i was wondering what the differences were of for programmers, downloaders, modules, outlooks, etc. Does a programmer allow you to change modes on the fly? If I just got an Edge Evolution would that work, or do I need something else to go along with it?

To my knowledge the only programmer that allows shift on the fly is bully dog's triple dog(or power pup, the only difference between the two is the triple dog works on all of the big three diesels and the power pup is specific to one), sct's live wire might be as well, but I have had no experiance with it. The outlook is the monitor for the bully dog products and it allows you to switch on the fly not just with the programmer previously mentions but their modules as well. Modules are really the bad ones, more then likely you'll have problems with those down there road, they send a false signal back to the computer so the computer thinks that your truck is running status quo, but in reality the module is bumping it up horsepower wise and fooling the computer. However, to my knowledge modules are almost all shift on the fly, but you really get over not having that after awhile. I have heard too many horror stories with tranny problems from edge products on your engine platform to disregard them all as just people spouting off dribble. Most 6.0 owners(myself included) would say go custom tunes, most would suggest Matt at Spartan Diesel(myself included) and if you decided to get more upgrades he can change your tuning to fit that need using the SCT xCal(all the others previous mention so far in this thread outside the SCT and DP cannot do that, however SCT is the one most recommended for this engine, while as previously mentioned DP is used more for the 7.3).
I'm not to sure maybe Matt or Storm can clear this up, but the switch on the fly chips are not good for the 6.0 because the 5r110 has to relearn ever time you change it. I woulnt look at anything other then the SCT weather you go with matt or some one else they all have some great tunes. and Its the ONLY tuner for the 6.0
