I am thinking of adding a performance chip to my truck. Recently added an AFE intake and turbo back exhaust. Was looking for a little extra before upgrading the transmission.
Any suggestions on chips? TS performance 6-position chip? Pretty sure Bully Dog and Banks make one as well.
I currently have a 2002 with 107,000 miles on the truck. Lightly used. Well cared for. Will adding a chip do more damage than good?
The Hydra Chip is a great platform for adding tunes to our 7.3L's. With this chip you can add performance tunes from any vendor. If you like you can run tunes from more than one vendor unlike the TS style chip.
In addition, when u buy the Hydra you have access to PHP's library of performance tunes for stock setups.
IMO, you can't go wrong with tunes from Tony (Total Diesel Performance) , Matt (Gearhead) or PHP (Power Hungry Performance). I've been running Tony's tunes on my F-250 for @ 10 years, and on the Excursion for @ 4.
X2 for the Hydra chip. You can use most any tuning company for your tuning files. The big advantages are the fact that you load the tuning files on your chip yourself. That means you can put them on the chip in any order you want and you can get new tuning files emailed to you and load them on your chip in minutes of ordering them from your tuning vendor. Many companies will even offer free updates for their tuning. As years go by most every company finds ways to tweak there tuning for better economy or power or shifting. With the hydra you call your provider, they send you an email, you download the new files to the hydra and your done. I have Gearhead and Swamps tuning on my Hydra. The Hydra isn't your cheapest option for a chip but in my opinion it's your best option for the money. I love my Hydra!
