Are there any tricks to getting the bolts of the Calilber Holding bracken, I got the Cilber off but when I tried to take the thing that holds the caliber on I couldn't get those stuburn bolts off, any ideas, do they turn the opposite way or somehting silly like that, before I strip the heck out of them I thought I should ask? thanks folks
Soak them in PB Blaster or Kroil (or some other kind of penetrant) so it will loosen them up a little bit. If that doesn't work, it might take some heat to break them free...
18mm box end wrench and smack with a 5 pound hammer. they have a drop of loctite on them and takes about 250 ft pounds to pop them loose. staandard metric thread.
Thanks for you help Gents. My update is I have sprayed they heck out of the bolts with liquid wrench and WD40 (Also Hammered them), and they still will not move, I will let them sit overnight, the only good thing to report is all my ABS sensors had OHMS readings, but my break pads and one rotor on the inside is chewed up pretty good and I'm sure thats why the ABS activate at strange times, will let you know how I make out Thirsday, Tonight is hockey night, Habs at Pens. chow
if they wont come loose, you dont have a big enough hammer. they are loctited into place and it takes a good whack to loosen them. remember you are looking backward at the bolt. pound clockwise to get them loose.---keep your fingers out of the way and hit it like you mean business.
Make sure you use Locktite and tighten them properly when you are puting it back together. I had one come off on me, and the caliper rotated up around the remaining bolt and scraped the crap out of the inside of my alloy wheel. Luckily, it didnt lock up and cause an accident.
Thanks folks, finaly got it, your help was great, I had to take my sledge hammer out and hit my socket extetion and it worked, Only got one done last night, they other one tonight chow
It helps if you turn the wheel before you jack the truck up. Like say you are working on the right front, you would turn the steeringwheel all the way to the right (or maybe to the left depending on where your caliper sits) so the caliper is facing out and easier to get access to the bolts.
