just wandering if anyone has ever put a mid 70s 350 small block(chevy) in an '88 ranger, or equivalent. there's a 302 in it now. just wandering if the cross member in the front would play a factor in how the 350 might go in. let me know..... email if you'd like meantones@hotmail.com thanks
Yeah, thats like blasphemy. Why on earth would you ever want to use a chevy motor. Seems everyone likes how they are nice to work on, but I personally prefer not to work on them at all. If it were me, I would not only look at another Ford motor to put in there, I would consider upgrading to a newer fuel injected system as opposed to swapping in a carburated motor.
Just...don't. The size is the biggest problem. The 350 is too long for the engine compartment in the Ranger. I had the same problem... free and good 350 and tranny, but no way I was gonna move the firewall to make it fit in the Ranger.
Sell it and buy a 351W...it's a shorter engine lengthwise (though wider) and will fit better. Actually...my suggestion is (do you own the 350 already?) sell the 350 and rebuild/upgrade the 302. I've got a 302 in my Ranger now and parts are EASY to find and cheap compared to parts for the regular Ranger engines. If anything Ford ever produced came close to the 350 SBC for parts availablility, it was the 302.
