ABS light and sensor
Hello everyonefficeffice" /><O></O>
<O></O>
I have a 1999 ford explorer sport with approximately 115,000 miles and last week my ABS light turned on so I took it to the dealer. The diagnostic showed the following error #XL2Z2C219BA. This error is supposed to be the beginning of various hard codes stored in controller and it has several erratic codes. The dealer tells me that I need to change the controller ($784 for the part and $425 for the labor) just to find out what other errors need fix. Does this make sense? It seems to me that the price of the part and the labor is very high. At the end of diagnosis they came up with almost $5000 dollars in things they suggest to fix. Please help! If you require further information please contact me at gio_2@hotmail.com or respond to this post. BTW, this is my first time in the site so all assistance not messing up is greatly appreciated.<O></O>

Thanks in advance<O></O>

Welcome to the forum! First assistance will be to suggest laying off the emoticons. The second piece of assistance is to point out there's not need to post to an old thread AND start a new thread with the same information. Now you have two threads to update as you learn more and ultimately fix the issue.
The price for the ABS controller doesn't seem too far off for a dealer, but the labor to change it (probably involves some reprogramming too) seems high.
Also the "error" listed doesn't make sense. The ABS module will still provide a diagnostic code in the form C0123 or some other letter prefix (I don't recall what the ABS uses). It will take a specialized scan tool (either dedicated ABS or a professional grade tool) to access the diagnostic code, but it shouldn't be as cryptic as what they told you. I wonder if they listed the part number of the controller instead of an error code.
It's pretty common for the rear wheel speed sensor to fail on this vintage of Explorer....

Thanks Rod, I appreciate the advice. I did think those emoticons were a bit over the edge when they appared as I cut and pasted my question from Word but I didn't think much of it. I messed up with the double thread. I was not sure if once I answered an old post many people would view it, I know better now...
There is a possibility that what I gave you was the part number which would mean that they did not provide me with the error code... As Steve suggested maybe I'll just live with the light on in this vintage of Explorer. I do appreciate your time and information.
Have a great day
