Is it true that you have to take it to the dealership. My mother borrowed the truck to tow her car and belongings when she moved out of the city and lost a set of keys.
I fed exed the only pair I have left. Is there any way to turn the truck to program mode?
IIRC, I believe it is off-on-off-on...for 8 cycles with it being left in the on position for the 8th time. The locks should go up and down. Then you mash the buttons on the remote so the vehicle learns the frequency.
My understanding is if you have 2 or more keys you can program more keys. If you only have one then you have to take it to the dealer for them to reprogram that key and the new ones. It is a safety device so somebody could not steal your key and make a copy. I had to take mine to the dealer a couple months back because I had only one key and needed more.
You need to have TWO keys to program a replacement key. Otherwise you have to go to the dealer and pay like $110 for them to do it. I believe some locksmiths now have the equipment to program the keys.
Yes you have to have 2 keys but they have to be the 2 original keys or else you have to go to the dealer or locksmith. A locksmith around me charges $50.
Duh, I just realized you said key and not the key fob. I gave the instructions for the key fob programming. Not sure about the key, if it is the last one, a trip to the dealer might be in order.
In your manual it is on page 95. I thought it was 2 original keys, but it seems to say that if any 2 keys are already programed you should be fine and can do it yourself.
