PATS key question

I have a 2002 F150 and two working PATS keys. I have an additional PATS key that was programmed to another F150 and have cut this key to fit my 2002 F150. I don't need this third key for the other truck anymore. This third key opens the doors on the 2002 fine but I have not tried it in the ignition or programming it to the truck yet. Can this previously programmed key be programmed to the other vehicle, if the key cuts will let it work?

Yes. The key itself is not programmed, the vehicle's PATS system is programmed to recognize the key's unique identification code. The key's RFID code never changes.

Instructions for adding a third (or more) key are in owner's manual.

You sure can . The key never gets programed . Its the ECU that gets programed to accept the key. The same key could be accepted in to a unlimited number of vehicles ECM 's as long as it will turn the lock tumblers in the column .
It also must be in the right range of years to work.

Actually, it's the cluster (in his generation truck) that accepts the programming of the PATS key info, not the PCM/ECU.
