i will be getting ready to install gauges on my 99 250 super duty soon and wanted to know... i looked at the pictures on where to drill and tap for the boost gauge, but wondered, wouldnt you have to take that piece of the induction system out to do it, otherwise all the shaving will go right into the system?
Why Drill & Tap there? Just put a tee in the MAP sensor line or drill & tap an AIH delete plug. It would be easier I think than messing with the spider. Most gauge kits come with a tee, and you can get an AIH delete plug for like $8 (or cheaper if you find one that fits nearby).
Good call Izzy. I like the AIH delete.
I have heard if you want to drill and tap the spider just stick some rags down there and vaccum the shavings out when you are done. If it is ferrous (I dont know) you could also throw a mag into the mix.
You can also put big blob of bearing grease the drill bit which will catch the shavings. It's aluminum, so a magnet won't work. Since the I/C tubes come off easily, you have a lot of options without pulling the spider, I think. The cleanest is the AIH delete plug, IMHO.
thanks for all the input, once i get the gauges, i will see what im up to doing... the map line tee is probabaly easiest, but i dont like splices like that
thanks for the differnt ways, but i think im just gonna drill and tap the spyder pipe, because i already have it off and sitting on my bench because im deleting the EBPV so i wont have to worry about anything dropping into my system

If you have it off, go ahead and remove the AIH unless you have extremely cold winters and let your truck idle for long periods of time you will never use it. That will give a hole already tapped. I went to Autozone and bought a plug that would screw into the hole and the center of the plug was tapped so my brass boost hose fitting screwed right in. Just use teflon tape and you will be fine.
if i do go with that port and unplug the AIH what kind of codes will i have to deal with then and are the soft codes or will it make the engine light come on?

Yeah i didnt get any codes, and havent used scanner, nothing has changed in the way the truck runs.
