it does? when did this happen? the cranks are good for almost as high as you want to take them if they have enough oil. I was just reading about someone who shifts at 7200RPM with a 428 crank.
410 truck engine?? Paul what years did Ford offer 410s in trucks, I just can't recall. Where can I find one? thanks.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
I may be wrong here, but I have never heard of Ford offering a forged FE crank other than the 391T truck crank (which does indeed need the snout to be turned down) and the 427 side-oiler crank which has the proper snout already. However, both of these cranks have a 3.78 stroke, not the 3.98 stroke of the 428. If Ford made a forged 3.98 stroke crank I would kill for a casting number/application or any other information. Also unaware of any 410 in a truck from the factory.
CrazyJohn, I've never considered any of the FE cranks 'weak'. But if you think you need the forged crank, the best way to go is to get a 391FT forging and cut down the snout and offset grind to 2.200 on the rod journals to get the extra stroke. You could also have Crower or Callie's or someone like that carve one out of billet for you, but that would be waaaaaaay exspensive. And always keep your eyes open for old ford racing stuff. Ford used to sell raw crank forgings for the FE back in the mid 60s. Some of those would get ground at 3.98 stroke with the normal 2.438 rod journal. Some of Fords own cranks had a 4.375 stroke in the '427' SOHC engine. The factory had tons of this stuff when they were doing land speed record work on the salt flats. But I have only seen one of those cranks for sale in my entire life. I wonder where they all went ? DF
are you talking about those 483 starlifter engines? I'm pretty sure that's what they were called, pre 427 stuff I thought though, 406 bore with a really long stroke
