How does everyone lift cabs off the frame? I'm interested to know what works and what doesn't work. I am getting ready to make the '72 a '71 and vice versa.

I had my brother in law, and his tractor help me Jake. This is a pic of the bed coming off, but the cab worked the same way. Otherwise, if you have about six guys, you can set some saw horses on the sides of the cab. Have four guys lift it up, then have the other two runs some 4x4's underneath the cab on to the saw horses. Set the cab on the sawhorses, then roll the frame from out under it.

I'd tell ya Jake but I am afraid you might try it and I don't want you to put yourself in the same kind of danger I did!!! My wife just kept calling me a hillbilly and wouldn't watch. It did involve rafters and ratcheting straps though!

72 Ford pictures by jseim44 - Photobucket

For all you people that wanted to see. We'll see if anyone figures out how I lifted the body off. I can guarantee you it was WAY easier than George or Pat did it!!!

And I bet no one has seen a Camper Special highboy

I had to switch the harnesses for the alternator/voltage regulator because the one on the motor was missing a plug in for the power to the cab. Got that switched but it won't crank, and I just realized (literally as I'm typing this) that I'll probably have to bypass the neutral safety switch since the cab came from an auto. Anyway, put the hood on, make it run, put the clutch pedal and linkage in and I'm good to go! I would've gotten it all done but I had to do brakes on my girlfriend's car and I wasn't exactly up at the crack of dawn everyday......

Got the Highboy all done. Might still have a ground issue on the tail lights and I need to hook up my tach and mechanical oil pressure and temp gauges. She is all ready to go. Took it for a drive and I still need to get the timing dialed in but it IS driveable!

On to the next project....

Finally got my gauges all hooked up this morning. Got all my lights fixed a while ago. Now I am fighting a pesky oil leak from the drain plug. I just can't get it stopped. Oh well, I'll figure it out sooner or later. Then it will be time to add power steering and after that I will be "done" with it for awhile.

It's somewhat of a sad day.....we are going to kick Ol Blue out of the heated shop today and put her in storage for the winter. I hope she understands......

Got some air bags to put on the GMC so maybe when I pull a trailer or haul something I can air them up and it won't squat so bad. It wasn't too bad until I put the leveling kit on it and now when I put something in it that would normally level it out it squats and I just can't stand it. So I'll throw those on this weekend. Maybe go get the '71 from my brother's and see if I can fix the oil leak it has.

For some reason I wasn't subscribed to this thread anymore.. I never got to see how you did it, and now your pictures "have been moved or deleted". Care to post again? I am curious now.
