So Dutch?? How did the length of the pushrod work for ya? I’m kinda in the same boat. Do you have anymore info of the push rods? Is there a tolerance we can get away with??
We used to deal with this all the time. I'm going to guess what the OP had could have GM pushrods. When building race engines you run into this quite a bit and as long as the rod type is the same (diameter and ball socket configuration) the engine sure doesn't care. I've got Buick rods in my Clevor.
Check the lifters, compare them to the originals, FE lifters have a shorter pushrod cup height than other Ford lifters, they are all the same diameter but the taller height of non FE lifters won't allow the valves to fully close.
We also go a set of lifters once that would pump up and not bleed down causing low compression issues, that problem drove us nuts for a while until we figured out what was going on.
I think I have a similar issue. Compression is about 90 psi across the board (wet and dry). I replaced the heads and still have a compression issue. Seems like if I let the lifters bleed down a few minutes, the compression comes up. I just ordered some new lifters (Howards) and am going to try replacing them... Thanks for the post. It's been hard to find much info on this.
