1947 Coe
It sounds like a few of you have some COE projects. These aren't common (parts are even more scarce) and it's good to see some other enthusiasts. I have a stock '47 COE with the 101 inch wheelbase and a stake bed. It has a few mods (alternator, new radiator, wiring) but still sports the flathead, four-speed and a two-speed rear axle. I think it was originally equipped with a high-lift coal bed (available in 46-47) or dump box (not available from the factory in 46/47 but maybe as an aftermarket add to a cab/chassis truck) as it was a coal truck in Boston. I'm guessing they didn't use stake beds for coal delivery but I have no pictures/data that far back to back that up.
For windshield seals, Steele, Dennis Carpenter and Patrick's (I think) are a big negative...at least about 6 months ago when I was looking.
Bob Drake restored a '38 COE back in the early '90s (again, I think...memory fades) and made a bunch of seals but he's all out now. They occasionally pop up on eBay but you could drop up to $400 bucks on a pair.
The good news...maybe...Bob Drake and his associates claim that they intend to make more, it's just not a priority right now (something about low demand/volume and a new supplier). The seals have been listed in the last few catalogs but no seals have been made yet...orders for seals will result in back orders. I last checked with them while at the LA Roadsters meet in June so things may have changed. Hopefully, there is enough interest for them to make some someday soon. Send Bob an email maybe...
I've accumulated a few COE articles, brochures, photos and data in the last few years. If you need pictures, I have some of mine in various stages and even a few vintage photos with different specialty bodies. The Early Ford V-8 Club is also a good source for info...there are several individuals in the club who have more experience/data...
