Having just purchased a '47 Bubble Nose, I'm finding most vendors start their catalogs with 1948. Is there anyone making/selling parts for this vehicle. I wanted it because it is different, but how much of the regular truck parts will I be able to use on this truck? If ya got any links, I would appreciate them.
Bubble, welcome. That's a new name to me, I've never heard them called Bubble Nose, just COEs, learn something new everyday.
Check out places like Job Lot, Mac's Antique Auto, or Bob Drake. Some of the conventional truck's parts can be used. The body has no interchangable parts, most of of the chassis components will be the same. The engines are the same, so you good there. What are your plans with the truck?
Bubble Nose fits the '48 or later models a little better, but I still call it that.
I have been looking for one of these trucks for several years and found many in various condition, but once I saw a '47 I knew that was the year I just had to have. The one I purchased is an original driver, needing very little work. As far as my plans, I have yet to make very many. So far I'm just doing a lot of research and thinking. Since it's not going to be a trailer queen I'm not sure if I should stay with the flathead or opt for a late model engine & trans. Right now it has a flatbed on it, but I have made the decision to replace that with a early model pickup bed with running boards. Other than that I'm not sure.
I have found several links from reading the posts on this website and will continue to build my library before I start draining my wallet.
That is a scanned copy out of an original dealer Brochure that I have. I really don't know where you would get one.
This has all the Truck models that Ford built in it with specs, and all in color.
Jeez, where do you guys get your names. I can see this one, but honestly, I wouldn't want to be known by that. I guess Elder Rodder isn't too cool either. Oh well, we are what we are (I guess that also means we aren't what we aren't).
Try this website for body parts. I wish they had been around when I was doing my bodywork. Great parts and pretty reasonable too. www.northernclassictrucks.com./cabover_corner.htm
You should find something there for your cabover. If not, others can. Worth every penny.
Ya know what they say; "What's in a name?"
When I say yours (Elder Rodder), I have to catch myself so I don't say Elderado. Which is better than mine (Bubble Boy), cause it tries to come out Bubble Butt. So I'm really messed up.....
Anyway, that's a great site and I'm sure I'll be spending money there.
5Star,
Any chance you could scan it in higher resolution and post little pieces? Or upload a copy to photobucket.com or something? I'd really like to get some dimensions off of that document. I'll PM you too.
greetings
I too am starting to breathe life into a 47 COE. Had her called a bubble nose yesterday by my brother in law (an old trucker) who saw her for the first time.
Any info will be appreciated. I got a Wilcap adapter comming to mate an 86 305 to the original trans, cause I want a TRUCK. Still more power than the flattie and maybe I wont break her driveline. I saw the body panel link mentioned earlier, I cant find any rubber. My windshield seal is a rock! Any ideas? And what is that thing that looks like a heater? Mine isnt hooded up but it's fittings are so small it think it burns gas.
I'm full of Questions. More later.
