Hi everyone - I have a 07' screw and need to remove my mirror on the front, it's the one w\ the dimmer option. Tried to get it tinted and they said there's a tool to remove it and without the tool there's chance it would crack.
So, I'm here asking the pro's how it's done!
Thanks Alot
Carl
Welcome to FTE Carl!~
During a recent windshield replacement, I noticed the tech used a tool that looked like a pickle fork/tuning fork, Only flatter. It Looked like he simply slid this under the outer shoe of the mirror base and it simply slid off in a second or so (literally). But the base of it would be totally different animal to remove(the new windshield already had a new base in place)
I'm thinking this tool has a slight taper to it that I could not see and it released some sort of small latch in the base/shoe of the mirror?
Maybe I'll go googling for windshield/mirror removal tools to see what pops out.
On Edit: I re-read your post and noticed it was With the auto Dimmer function... so I'm unsure how my observations will help.
I had the local dealer take my mirror off. Once you get the old mirror off, a regular mirror goes right on the same base, I didn't have to change the base to put a different mirror on. My mirror was a standard manual day-night, but it had that funky "spring-like" retainer on the mirror, but like I said, the base worked just fine with a different mirror.

I took my auto-dimmer off for tint...same basic deal "we might crack it, you take it off"
On mine, there is a little metal tab on the bottom where the mirror attaches to the windshield. I found a wood shim that was just the right thickness and drove it in to raise the tab. Then used another wood shim to tap the base of the mirror up and slide it off the metal tab that is stuck to the windshield.
