Issues removing the mirror

Hi folks -

I was redirected to this category since I'm asking specifically about the 2008-2010 super duty truck.

I have the power fold towing mirrors on my 08 F250, and have always folded them in whenever I park the truck. I got into my truck this morning and the passenger mirror is loose and wobbly, and won't power fold out. I am attempting to take the mirror assembly off to have a look inside to see what went wrong and how to fix it.

To my understanding, there are 4 bolts holding the mirror onto the door, 2 behind the grommets, 1 behind the tweeter speaker, and one below it. I have taken off the door panel and removed the regular speaker from the door, yet I still can't get any tools to get the 4th bolt off. How am I supposed to do this?

I don't know what kind of special tools you would need. It looks like a pretty simple job. I know my truck is older, but it looks about the same. I replaced my mirrors without any special tools. Maybe this will help.

Thanks for that. I was getting deceived by the tape and didn't realize there was access to the bolts from it. So now the mirror is off and ready to be operated on, but I've hit another snag.

Being that it is wobbling in the driving position (and only the driving position), I was planning on examining the pivot point to see if there was a clip or something broken. To get to there, the plastic appearance covering needs to be removed, or at least slid out of the way.

There are 3 clips holding the plastic covering on to the metal structure of the mirror, and it is designed to slid onto the telescoping part of the mirror. The snag I'm running into is that the plastic covering does not appear to be large enough to slide past the pivot point.

I was wondering if anyone had the schematics of the mirrors, or suggestions on where to look for them, so I could analyze them to figure out not only how to finish taking it apart, but how to fix it once I have it apart.

Thanks again
