The mirror on my '92 F150 fell off the windshield recently. I have purchased LOCTITE Professional Strength Rearview Mirror Adhesive, in the instructions they say to "Remove mounting button from mirror bracket". This is where I get stumped, is there a trick to this or a special tool? There is an opening on top and bottom of the cast aluminum bracket, anyone know how to get the damn thing apart.
Most that I have seen simply slip over a metal wedge. The metal wedge is what is glued to the windshield and while they slip together you may need to use a little force slipping the button or wedge out of the mirror bracket. Place the button on the windshield where you want your mirror located and draw an outline around it. Glue the button (metal wedge) on the windshield and let it sit for at least 24 hours before remounting your mirror.
To remove the button requires a 1/8" allen wrench to loosen the tiny set screw on the bracket. It's there, just look carefully, the hole might be covered with dust.Simply loosen a couple turn & slide out the wedge.Don't glue it upside down or backwards, check twice, glue once.

ps. if it falls again,go to a glass shop, don't waste money on another shelf product.I tell you this from experience in hot, south louisiana.
In the 70's I glued one on upside down, I figgered "Hell, I 'll just yank it off and reglue it" WRONG, I pulled out a chunk of the winshield with it. Check it twice.
Thanks for the info fellows, aparently the factory must have got some epoxy on the wedge because it's not going to come out. I bent a screwdriver end trying to pry it out, I also did not see a set screw anywhere on it. So I suppose that I'll have to glue it with mirror attached, I think I'll use some duct tape to help suport it until it set's.
I'll check again to see if there are any more idea's later.
Mine has a star screw right under the "post" that comes out from base to mirror, small not sure of size, good luck, did mine, got glue from Walley World, held until I replaced windshield. if you can't get wedge out definately support with something or it won't last!
