Take note ... someone other than me knows "A LOT" is two words.

same with "A Little" and not "alittle"

My one teacher always told me to know that: you don't always have to be right... it is more important..... not to be wrong"

I used to get straight "A" in english in 7th grade.
But that was a long time ago, LOL, so a lot of that has been forgotten.

I think a lot of the FTE posters have a good idea of how to compose sentences.

Some use "street English", or a combination of both.

There's also spelling involved.

Should we thank "Spell-check", or curse it?

Could it also be that part of our English language is being replaced by......"PLEASE PRESS TWO FOR ......"?

In Memphis there is a motor vehicle dealership named after the owner: "Gosset" something or other.... (CHEVY, FORD, whatever...)

Their new slogan is: "WE GOSSET!"

I nearly puked on the spot when I saw the billboard...

The flip side of it is - if language is understandable, and conveys the information it is intended to, is it really broken?

Or is it merely distasteful to some....

If I had to couch things in the language of William Shakespeare everyday I really think I would limit myself to the words YEP, and NOPE!

Unfortunately, it will appeal to many.

language evolves, our english today is not the same many years ago and it will not be the same 100 years from now.

i spell just fine at college and at work, i really do not think i need to go through formalities on a forum about ford trucks.

its funny how some poeple declare "ain't" not a word yet it is so commonly used, same with the rule of never starting a sentence with "and", there should be a time when the language police give way to some common lingo.

i understand what you mean about it, but i do not think anyone should expect on a forum like this to have perfect grammer and spelling on every aspect and held to an academic level, it is just a forum.

what is worse is that my wife did not know english even 6 years ago yet she has the highest grades in english classes where she attends college, she tells me the little stories of the students, many right out of high school that can not comprehend spelling simple things opr know simple grammer rules.

There have been studies lately that show the negative of impact spell correction programs and built-in phone books in cell phones.
Luckily, I grew up in a household where a mis-spelled word would earn me a smack across the back of my head.

In the which - for as much as what message as needs be sent is recieved well and supports commerce blatantly and with success, can we well regard such verbal truency as well thought out, and much successfull.

E'en though else it may seem to suck...

Such is communication

I usually spell everything correctly, but my sentences hardly ever sound correct.

But I have an excuse: English is my second language.

If we had to understand how they spoke 200 years ago, we'd be lost.
(In explanation to tewferford, and many others)

Shakespeare was brilliant, but if I had to sit and drink with him - I'd tell him to shut up and go get laid.

"Lookit here Will - POUND the brew, order the next, find out if she's really a redhead.... Can you do that?"

You got that right!! I have a book from 1926 and the language is very different!! A lot of old english that we don't even use anymore!! Quite the eye opener to how much we have evolved!!
