I read a lot of posts here, and deal with a LOT of people on my job. It never ceases to amaze me, that the more technology we have we still can't write a proper sentence. I'm not the greatest in the world, but some of the posts on here are all lower case and no punctuation. Did the high schools give up on teaching how to place periods and commas? Also it never ceases to amaze me how many COLLEGE grads will use "I ain't never done that!", "I ain't got no", or similar in EVERYDAY conversation. It drives me nuts. I learned this stuff in the THIRD grade in the most BACKWARD school in Ohio. Just one of those pet peeves. How can we let these (read OUR) kids go through life without a proper grasp on the LANGUAGE WE SPEAK!?! It's no wonder the rest of the world laughs at us.
For me I don't worry much about the grammar since I never was very good at in the first place. Haven't been to school in 40 years so what little I did have has been pretty well ruined anyway. I think people have got use to spell check or just being in a plain hurry. Kids are more into the text message mode so their spelling is even worse.
I am probably one of the people you are talking about. English was my absolute worse subject, and to make matters worse. I was exempt from English in my 11th & 12th year of school. I majored in industrial arts, and was teaching small frame construction in my senior year. I will be the first to admit, I am terrible at putting a structured sentence together. Plus the simple fact that CRS has taken control of my brain, doesn't help matters either.
All I can say is, to each and everyone. Please except my apology.
I left school in 1960 and I couldn't spell then and in the last 47 years I aint got no better at it. I hope yawl can make out what I try to say when I make a post.
I work at a K-12 school and it is amazing that ALL the teachers misuse the word 'seen'. They will say to the students, "I seen your mom at the store yesterday!" or "I have alot of work." A lot is supposed to be two words!!! And I love the newsletters that they mail home. They look like they have been written by one of the elemenary students! Pretty sad, indeed!!
