When it comes to spelling I think of the pay cheque (paycheck) thing.
Your name is John Smyth and you have worked for a new employer for 2 weeks it's friday and you are anxiously awaiting your first pay cheque and the person who write out the cheques (checks) made out your cheque with the name Jon Smith (because they were lazy or didn't care enough to make sure to get it right)
It's now 5:30 and you are now basically out a paycheck until Monday.
Hypothetical Question:
Do you now care someone spelled something wrong...like your name ?
I fully expect at least an attempt at proper grammar on a website. To not shows a lack of respect for not only others but yourself. If you can't be bothered to pay attention to the little details on something as trivial as a forum, what does that say about how you are the rest of the time? Just because you use proper language skills at work and college, doesn't make it ok to ignore them on a message board. One night you might be writing that report for whatever class and slip up. All of my college professors would mark points off for improper grammar, spelling, or sentence construction. Needless to say I had my share of bad marks due to it, but I think we need to at least make an attempt. When I read a post that says: "my truck wont start replaced starter solenoid starter battery still wont start what can i check next at my wits end here please help" it's hard to read.
the example you gave of course you are correct in your thoughts. everyone should expect basic grammer skills when reading but should not expect perfectional in such an informal setting as this forum.
details depend on the job and the job requirments, while working in communications in the Navy, many standard english grammer rules were thrown out the window for operational reasons and equipment limitations, yet everyone could perfectly understand what was being communicated, hence the purpose of language in the first place.
but i do agree that kids coming out of school now days do have way worst grammer skills than i ever thought possible from people right out of school, that is from my own experience being in college with them.
Canadians have a different way of spelling certain words than U.S. does.
Maybe it's the Canadian French influence.

If I was Canadian, I just might say you are absolutly correct.
In the which - for as much as what message as needs be sent is recieved well and supports commerce blatantly and with success, can we well regard such verbal truency as well thought out, and much successfull.
E'en though else it may seem to suck...
Such is communication

How much is it saying, that I understood this?
(o.k.. o.k... so I proofread a doctoral thesis, 1/2 of whose contents were Chaucerian English... )
i'm guilty of lazy typing. with the arthritis in my hands it's a chore to hit each key let alone the luxury keys, like shift. my peeve is the over use of emote images.
people are cranky about lower case, 'cause, 'till (guilty as hell), but instead of wording our emotions, we use those silly icons.
i for one have seen other forums that make this site look like a Mensa meeting. even tony, tim and me. thank heavens for spell check or most of what i type would have no caps, except God, America, U.S. and most other proper names and those that deserve my highest respect. i even cap Hillary due to her position. i do not respect her, but i do her position. (no offense tim or tony)
There's a strange speech pattern I had never heard until moving to FL. Instead of saying, "My truck needs to be painted." people will say, "My truck needs painted." I don't think it's local though, since we have so many transplants. Anyone know where it comes from?
