There are two oil dipsticks on my 360,why? The best I can tell its a 68 year block{c8ae-h on heads, cant find # on block}. I should say one dipstick is in the shallow of the pan and the ather in the belly.
FT oil pans have the dipstick on the right side of the pan about half way back. These pans look like a rectangular box and contain 8 or more quarts of oil. The dipstick in the front is standard for all other FEs. Either one works.

Both are on the left side if your looking from the cab forward. Does anyone have any idea on those casting #? Also the belly of the pan is toward the rear of the engine not the front.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Nov-02 AT 00:04 AM (EST)]A 4x4 should have a rear sump 5-quart (plus 1-quart filter)pan, with the dipstick inserted thru the side of the pan. The car/4x2 oil pan is a front sump 4-quart(plus filter), with its dipstick installed into the front of the block next to the filter adaptor. Sounds like you have an engine out of a car, and the pan off a 4x4. Most people install a small freeze-type to plug the hole in the side of the block and ditch the car stick when they install the 4x4 pan, but this way you can measure your oil level two ways!! Steve
360 ci engines were put in cars. I think you have a better chance of snagging a 390 from a car than a truck, but I always look! You gotta measure the stroke.

I know dodge put 360's in some of their automobliles but I don't think ford ever put one in a car. There was an old 360 that did go in a car but it was not FE.
