U might blow somthing. U would be better off with a relay. I have aftmarket fog lights with ford factory fog light casings. I hooked the red wire to the battery, to the lights and the switch. I attached the black wire to some metal. It wasnt really think though (didnt have a strong nough drill). I ran no relay and i get about 1 to 1 and a half months out of fog lights before they blow. I am using 55 w's so i don t know if i would use 100 w's with out a realy.
Like I said, (knock on wood) our have been on the truck for three years and have not had a lick of problems.
I have EXACTLY the same switches in the exact location... funny, huh?
I recently added one more, so I have a total of 4 switches which run...
1) First set of high-beam driving lights on the roof
2) Second set of high-beam driving lights on the roof
3) Activation switch for air-horns on/off
4) Power safety switch for on-board air compressor
I also got them at AutoZone... I don't know about your switches, but the colored LED's are bright... MIGHTY bright!
Actually, I got mine at AdvancedAuto I think but yeah, they probably have them everywhere and also, I got a few locally in a small parts store.
They are a little too bright for me so I put the right on for the brights so that it would be partially behind the steering wheel when I turned it on and wouldn't bother me as much.
I got mine at auto zone (foglights) but they dont look like an of urs. It is in the gallery.
i eat hybrids, do fogs work well as backup lights? My local stores dont stock anything that is specifically "backup" and I really need something. My front windows were tinted by the previous owner (probably past legal tint) and backing at night is a bugger.
Works great! Someone got a set cheap from Harbor Freight and I got mine from Wal Mart for around 15 bucks for a pair.
You can also put brighter bulbs. I have 55w in mine.
HOWEVER, when looking out the rear window it's still hard to see because
1. The truck is tall and big and
2. Tinted rear window and dimming rear view mirror
I look at my side mirrors and I have plenty of light.
If you need more light you have other options. More powerful bulbs, more lights in the back and finally mount something on top of the truck to get the light from ABOVE instead around the ground.
Yep that's what I just installed, but I still have to hook em up electrically. I mounted a pair of lights on the roof rack. I think they are either 55W or 65W. That should brighten the night when backing up... I'll let you know how it works and looks as soon as I have them hooked up.
