I have a spotlight installed like a police car on the front for ranch work at night which i think i could wire these things in with so ive got a pretty good idea of what im going to do
so I don't forget and drive down the road with 55 watt lights burning out my backside. Keep other drivers (especially the ones in little cars) happier.
The idea of placing the vehicle in reverse and setting the parking brake as posted earlier doesn't seem to me to be a good idea. I've never met a parking brake I trust that much.
Plus it won't work if you want to actually DRIVE and have them on.
I think a switch is absolutely the best way and it's so easy to press it.
i picked up a couple small black fog lights from advance auto parts and mounted them on the bottom of my hitch...i ran the wires behind the bumper into my bed (via little holes on side) behind my bed rug and through the holes in the cab ( the ones that are behind the back seat with the little rubber gomets) i simply took a razor and cut a slit in it and fed the wires through...under the carpet , and into the swithc and then i put in a inline fuse and then put it into the fuse box...i ran it into i think the fuse for the one of the upfitter switchs...since i dont have the factory upfitters...here is a pic of my switch....the red one is for the backup lights and the other 2 are for my 08 power scoping mirrors
The best bet is to use a relay like I did. You can use the back up circuit off of the 7 pin to trip the relay. Then you are just drawing off the battery.
haha yup a got a v10, i just wasnt thinking when i was looking at ur tags. It hit me after i posted my comment. Did you just weld hat tip on over ur piping?
Drive with rear lights on? Sounds goofy. I never said my way was best, but it is the fastest and easiest. No issues with parking brake, I know how to keep it adjusted and also carry a chock block when trailering in case I park on steep hill. A relay tripped by reverse is perfect. I only want the lights on in reverse (moving or parked) or after I back up to hook/unook trailer (parking brake works as trailers are only left on level ground) and that is what I have. Works for me and I offerred it as a suggestion.
Have fun driving with those rear lights on-Guiri!!
My new tip was like that. It wouldnt stay in one place this, it would always move up and down. Had to have some guy weld it on. Does that happen with urs?
