Looks like fuel to me. Try removing the valve covers and retorqeing the injectors.

You'll need an inch pound torque wrench so you can tighten the injector bolts to 120 inch pounds. It's a single bolt on the bottom side of the injector that secures it. If you simply cannot get one 120 inch pounds is 15 foot pounds. Most torque wrenches start out at 20 foot pounds so you would need to just be carefull and not overtighten the injector hold down bolts.
While you are in there, retorqe the rocker arm pedastals. They tend to loosen up over time and then that leads to broken bolts and bent pushrods. There are four of them per pedastal and they are torqued to 20 foot pounds.
All the fasteners are standard six point, nothing special there.

There is a copper sealing washer at the bottom of the injector cup. If the injector is loose the injector will work its way up a touch and then the 60 psi fuel will leak past the injector tip into the cylinder. It's not really getting atomized so it just get's blown back out the exhaust port without getting burned, hence the grey smoke.

Question

I am not a seasoned pro like some of these guys, but I have heard these things MANY times:

1. Water in the fuel ! (maybe from a tank that was almost empty or an underground tank that water got into, and coolant of course.)

2. Gasoline mixed with the diesel ! (Did anyone other than you fuel up your truck at any time?....or maybe the transporter dumped gas by mistake? Fuel up at any different places lately? Has anyone else who purchased fuel at the same place had a problem?...etc.,etc.,)

3. A prank from someone who knows these things or other tricks?

Hope it's something this simple !!!!!

If retorquing the injectors gives you a dramatic reduction in smoke, don't think it's fixed.
You'll need to remove all the injectors and at the very least re-do all the seals. Give a HARD look at the bottom of the injector cups to make sure the sealing surface is nice and level, not degraded. You may need to do the cups as well to make the repair permanant.

If you can't find a inch-pound torque wrench you can use a foot-poung one, but 120 in-lb is 10 ft-lb. 1 ft-lb is 12 in-lb.
