I have seen many of the write-ups for them, but have not done one. IMO it is a non-essential item , unless you are itching to burn money. You could piece it together yourself and save some coin as opposed to buying it in the complete kit.
Well I have a tranny cooler sitting around and I was thinking about what I could use it for.
I was wondering if I could get my hands on the kit for the bypass filter but not do one. Or, at least yet.
Do the filter leave out the cooler. I prefer a Frantz or Motor Guard filter over the more exspensive units. they require more frequent fitler changes but they also don't cost you $20 for a filter element each time either.
Just so I am clear we are talking engine oil right?
If so the reason I would not cool the engine oil any more is first it already has a factory oil cooler that does a good job and secondly it's an opportunity to leak.
also adding a bypass filter will also cause some cooling affect.
Yes the oil cooler is a oil to coolant cooler. The housing the oil filter screws onto is one end of the cooler and the 3 inch tube that goes toward the front of the engine is the cooler.
Wow glad that was cleared up, I must have been REALLY tired last night as I read all this to be you adding another TRANNY cooler with an in-line filter as well. Anyway
